Paedophile choirmaster’s victim thanks weekly for helping him speak out

Roger LunnThe victim of a paedophile choirmaster has thanked his local newspaper for prompting him to end four decades of silence and go to the police.

The man, who was abused by Roger Lunn, 77, in the 1970s, came forward after reading an article in the Kingston Guardian about other indecent assaults by Lunn on boys in Cambridge.

Thanks to his testimony Lunn, pictured above left, a former cellist in the London Symphony Orchestra who had played with Jacqueline Du Pre, and was a private tuition teacher, admitted a further five counts of sexual assault.

He was jailed for a further two years and six months.

The victim, who was a boy in the 1970s and has retained his right to anonymity, told the paper this week: “I do have to say thanks to the Kingston Guardian, as without that I probably wouldn’t have spoken out.”

Encouraging other victims to come forward, he added: “You’re not alone.

“This is something that you need to feel will be the right thing to do before you do it as you’re going to have to go through what happened, talk to someone also, possibly for the first time about what happened.”

The full story can be read on the Guardian’s website here.

The victim told the paper:  “In the longer term, I am in no doubt that my experiences at Roger Lunn’s hands have had a profound effect on my adult relationships, both intimate and otherwise.

“I have not yet conquered that feeling of taintedness.”
