City’s new digital magazine aims to go into print

A new online magazine has been launched for the city of Glasgow with the aim of becoming a print publication later this year.

Glasgow Scooped has been created as a monthly digital magazine for the city, which aims to bring people the best stories from across Glasgow.

The team behind the project want the title to go into print at a later date and also have ambitions for it to become a weekly publication.

The magazine was conceived by James Forrest, a digital publisher of other magazines including Amped Up Scotland, and photojournalist Brian Anderson, and was downloaded by around 1,000 people in the first fortnight after launch.

James told HTFP: “We want to feature real news stories from Glasgow, but we also want to help this city build a mythology which is why we’re going to do a lot of ‘hidden Glasgow’ stories and explore urban myths.

“In addition we want the kind of features you get in every magazine; stuff on the city’s nightlife, stuff on sport and unusual tales from around the place.

“We’ve also got one character/columnist we call Malky … the pub philosopher who’s analysis is always on the nose although written in crude Glaswegian!

“And because we love reviews of movies and TV and good games we’re also going to have a section where we just talk about the things we love in those fields. Not reviews as such, just wee entertaining articles where we gush over our favourite things.”

He said the title had been set up after he and Brian had been unimpressed by a free newspaper in Glasgow which had offered them work.

James said the aim was to get the publication into print as soon as possible and they had someone working on securing advertising.

A piece on the title’s website promised it would be “focused on Glasgow and for Glaswegians”.

It added: “This is the best city in the world, and we think it deserves the best magazine in the world.  With your help, and support, we’ll make this the best publication in this city … and then in Scotland.”

The title includes colour-coded sections including the Big Scoop, the City Scooped, the Cultural Scoop and the Ice Cream Scoop.

The publication can be viewed here.

Sorry – but I think it looks horrible. Headline crashes into the side of Brady’s head and face; the whole thing looks like a 1950s movie mag. Inconsistent styles in hamper (full stop after Bryan Adams trailer, not in the other one).
‘Scooped’ surely means someone has beaten you to it – or it’s something you’ve done to dog-do.
