Hundreds of entries received for 2016 Wales Media Awards

Jonathan GrunMore than 240 entries have been received for the second edition of a revived annual awards celebrating Welsh journalism.

Judges have begun sifting through the submissions to the 2016 Wales Media awards, which have been entered across 19 categories.

The Awards are open to print, broadcast and online journalists, photographers and camera operators working across Wales in news, business, features, politics and sport.

There are categories recognising community and student journalism, while the judges will also choose winners for Journalist of the Year and for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism.

Chair of judges Jonathan Grun, Emeritus editor at the Press Association, pictured above left, said: “This represents a phenomenal response and is evidence of the vibrancy of journalism in Wales.

“It also suggests that, as the Journalists’ Charity has always maintained, the profession in Wales is crying out to be able to showcase their work.”

The awards were revived last year by the Journalists’ Charity after a break of several years.

They will be presented by the Charity’s president in Wales, Huw Edwards, at a ceremony in Cardiff on 4 March next year.
