Former city weekly editor joins wife to found new PR company

Stacey Barnfield 1A former city weekly editor has joined forces with his wife to launch a public relations and publishing agency.

Stacey Barnfield, pictured left, has set up Edwin Ellis Creative Media after leaving his role at the Birmingham Post in July.

His wife, Catherine Hendrick, who previously worked as an award-winning reporter for sister paper the Birmingham Mail, is a co-director of the company.

The company will be offering public relations, publishing, copywriting and graphic design services.

Edwin Ellis acquired its moniker from the middle names of Stacey’s two sons.

He hopes his ‘insider knowledge’ of how the media has changed in recent years will be one of the key selling points for the company.

On its website the company says: “We know what reporters are looking for and what readers are interested in.

“We know the stories that make news editors open their emails and when to (or, more importantly, when not to) bother them with a news release.

“Trust us, we’ve been there and this insider knowledge is worth its weight in gold.”

Stacey is also chairman of private sector lobbying group Downtown Birmingham in Business, which launched in the city in September.

Insider knowledge of both how the media works and how the big players are failing readers, advertisers and local communities has been one of the cornerstones of success for the many fresh new magazines and media companies who are doing so well across the uk and filling glaring gaps that the majors no longer serve.
Good luck to Stacey and Catherine, you’ll soon see just how much business you can attract by doing all the basics properly, factors the big boys let slip long ago.
