Golden greetings from the spy who loved weekly

The actor who starred in The Man with the Golden Gun has wished a happy golden anniversary to a weekly newspaper.

Former Bexley resident and James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore told the News Shopper had the paper existed when he lived there, he would still be living there.

Sir Roger, pictured below, is the latest celebrity to wish the South-East London-based title congratulations on reaching its 50th birthday – with others including Sir Richard Branson and Mayor of London Boris Johnson posing with the paper.

The Shopper’s commemorations will last throughout 2015, with the paper organising a treasure hunt later this month and plans to sell its own specially-brewed beer in June.

Speaking from his home in Switzerland to deputy news editor Patrick Grafton Green, Sir Roger said: “”If the News Shopper had been around when I was living in Bexley, I would still be living in Bexley.”

Said Patrick: “We’ve been inundated with well-wishes for our 50th birthday, but Sir Roger has been the pick of the bunch so far.

“When I received his photo posing with our paper I nearly fell off my chair.

“Forget Connery and Craig, here at News Shopper there’s only one James Bond.”
