Editor joins reporters to take on cycle challenge

A group editor at a series of weekly titles will join two of his reporters in taking on a 55-mile charity cycle challenge around the Peak District to raise funds for a local hospice.

Graeme Huston, who edits the Derbyshire Times, Matlock Mercury and a series of other Johnston Press weeklies, will take part in the JE James’s Flagg Cycle Challenge to support charity Ashgate Hospicecare in July.

Joining him will be Matlock Mercury reporters Dan Hobson, pictured below, and Jon Cooper, along with cyclists from across the area.

The fourth annual cycle ride sets off from Chesterfield-based Ashgate Hospice at 9am on 26 July.

The challenge includes breathtaking views of Chatsworth House and the route includes Baslow, Ashford-in-the-Water, Flagg and Rowsley before returning to the hospice.

Jon said: “This is the fourth annual Flagg Challenge for Ashgate Hospice and we hope it will help raise thousands of pounds for a very worthy cause that helps ill people and families across Derbyshire.”

The trio are urging readers to join them and take advantage of an early booking discount available until 26 April.

There is also an alternate 25-mile ride, which sets off from the hospice to Ashford-in-the-Water and back.
