Early Christmas present for charity after weekly helps raise £120,000

A cancer care centre has received a six-figure early Christmas present thanks to an appeal run with a weekly newspaper.

The Stockport Express has helped raise more than £120,000 for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre, £20,000 more than its initial target.

The Silver Wing Appeal was launched in the Express with the aim of raising £100,000 over the course of 2015 to mark the centre’s 25th anniversary.

The money means the charity will now be able to extend its community facilities and a new charity, as well has providing a better experience for patients and their families.
