Sunday title marks first anniversary with movie

A short film featuring two former soap stars has been created to celebrate the upcoming anniversary of a regional daily’s first Sunday edition.

Liverpool’s Sunday Echo launched in January last year and to mark the occasion, a three minute video called ‘Sunday Echo: The Movie’ has been published on the Trinity Mirror-owned title’s website.

The tongue-in-cheek film features former Brookside actors Gillian Kearney and Simon O’Brien, who also starred in the spin-off Damon and Debbie, as a posh couple who move to Liverpool and “turn Scouse” as a result of reading the Echo.

The film was produced by Colin McKeown and written by Echo columnist Gary Bainbridge.

A piece accompanying the video on the Echo’s website reads: “The Sunday Echo is a year old this month and to celebrate we have made a movie!

“Time has flown since the launch last January of your new, favourite Sunday paper for Merseyside.

“And just like Hollywood when the big chances come along, the stars were queuing up for parts once they had read the script.”

The first Sunday edition of the Echo hit the streets on 19 January last year.

Bit patronising, but then the Echo newsroom has fewer scousers than Terry Christian’s Christmas card list.
