Bus boss thanks daily as readers’ complaints lead to route changes

A bus company has thanked a regional daily and its readers after complaints about its services in the newspaper led to route improvements.

Arriva had been under fire earlier this year after passengers in the Derby area complained about the punctuality of its vehicles.

However the company launched a consultation through the Derby Telegraph, with new services and routes set to be implemented from September as a result.

Simon Mathieson, area director east for Arriva Midlands,  thanked the Telegraph in a piece which also provided a splash for the paper on Saturday.

He said: “The Derby Telegraph and its readers have played a part in bringing to our attention other areas of the city where people were unhappy with our service.

He added: “Getting the messages out there via the paper into the public has also really helped.

“We’ve listened to all of the feedback and taken it in and this is what we’re doing.

“It’s been mostly positive feedback and also very detailed. People really have taken their time to come up with ideas. We would like to thank people for taking part.”

Telegraph editor Neil White told HTFP: “The unreliability of Derby’s buses has been a hot subject for our readers for some time now.

“Therefore, I was delighted that the company chose to consult them through us. This has resulted in a really positive outcome for both sides.”

Good front page story, shows the power of proper journalism. What a mess of a front page though.
