Baby boom in regional daily’s newsroom sees five new arrivals

A newsroom baby boom at a regional daily has seen five newborns welcomed into the world in the last six months.

Journalists at The Herald in Plymouth have been busy producing the next generation of budding reporters, with the arrival of five bouncing baby boys.

Chief reporter Sam Blackledge was the first to have a new arrival, when his son Locryn Eje was born on 24 February, weighing 6lb 12oz.

Next came baby Vinnie, who was born on 16 April to former senior reporter Lisa Clark, weighing 8lb 9oz, and former health reporter Sophie Henderson welcomed Hugo Eric Charles on 22 April, at 8lb 14oz.

Deputy head of news Helen Copson announced the arrival of baby Thomas Nicholas on 13 June, who weighed 8lb 11oz.

And the final baby to be born was Joseph William Moore, the son of deputy head of news Edd Moore, who was born on 25 July, weighing 7lb 7oz.

Sam said: “It is quite a bizarre coincidence that all five of us heard the pitter-patter of tiny feet at the same time.

“In days gone by, journalists would socialise over a few scoops at the pub. Now we’re more likely to be found gossiping about the benefits of cloth nappies outside Mothercare.”
