Yorkshire titles aim to turn county yellow

A group of newspapers in Yorkshire are aiming to turn the county yellow today as part of a fund-raising bid for air ambulance services in the county.

With all eyes on the county this weekend with the arrival of the Tour de France, all Johnston Press titles in West Yorkshire are holding a ‘Wear it Yellow’ day in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Readers are being invited to wear something yellow – which could be anything from a pair of socks to a banana outfit – and donate £1 for the Air Ambulance.

Newspapers taking part in the initiative include the Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire Evening Post and Wakefield Express.

Nicola Furbisher, managing editor of the YP and YEP said: “Since we launched the initiative businesses, charities, local groups and organisations from all over the county have flocked to join us in our event which takes place just as the Tour de France bandwagon rolls into town.

“It’s a great chance to engage with our readers, to share their pix, take plenty of our own and showcase our role in turning Yorkshire yellow before the world’s most-watched annual sporting event gets under way two days later.”

Will the newspapers be wearing it yellow? Masthead changes would have maximum impact…

Great idea sir. Tres creative. Having seen one of the YP supplements today though, all the bright ideas in the world could not have saved the overall look of the copy I saw. JP need to take issue with whomever let that go out onto the streets for sale. I should imagine Customer Services will be busy with ‘Free for Errors’ for advertisers. If it were any other product, customers would, rightly, be demanding a refund. For weeks Yorkshire has been banging on about the eyes of the world looking to Yorkshire … and what do the visitors open up as a Yorkshire souvenir? A shoddy product. I am by no means getting at the JP staff, whom I know will have worked long and hard at this, but oh, how badly they have been let down at the final hurdle by poor quality production. All the proofs may have looked spot on: the paid for article – appalling.
