Two regional editors join Society of Editors board

Two female editorial executives from the regional press have joined the board of the Society of Editors.

Alison Gow, Trinity Mirror’s digital innovations editor, joins the board along with Joy Yates, group editor of the Sunderland Echo, Shields Gazette and Hartlepool Mail.

Meanwhile Moira Sleight, editor of the Methodist Recorder, has become the organisation’s new treasurer, replacing Sue Ryan of the Daily Mail.

Trinity Mirror regional editorial director Neil Benson – a former SoE president – is stepping down from the board after 11 years.

This week’s SoE conference saw Doug Wills, managing editor of the Evening Standard take over as SoE president from Southern Daily Echo editor Ian Murray.

Unusually no new vice-president has been elected at this stage. It is understood this will happen at a later date.
