Trinity Mirror web users cast World Cup predictions

Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror is running a live poll across its regional websites to enable readers to make their World Cup predictions.

Thousands of readers have already taken part in the animated poll – revealing pessimism about England’s chances.

Users are able to choose who they think will win each group from the drop-down menus with the graphics below reflecting the total number of votes for each team.

At the time of publicaton the tightest group is D, with Italy pipping England to top spot, and Uruguay marginally behind the top two.

David Ottewell,  head of Trinity Mirror’s Data Unit, said: “Linking live polls to animations and graphics is something we want to do much more of in the future so this was something of a test.

“There may be scope to extend this idea beyond sport and into politics, and even data-based games.”
