Trinity Mirror creates team of regional managing editors

Publishing giant Trinity Mirror has announced a new team to help oversee its regional operation with new responsibilities for a number of its senior executives.

Michael Greenwood has been promoted to the new role of executive editor (group) and will spearhead content sharing across its national and regional titles.

Chris Walker, managing editor for the North West region, becomes senior managing editor for regionals and Eamonn O’Neal, managing editor at MEN Media, adds the North East region to his existing responsibilities and becomes deputy managing editor for regionals.

As part of the managing editor team, Michael will support the Midlands, Media Wales and Trinity Mirror Southern, while as executive editor (group) he will be responsible across the national and regional brands for championing the development of content sharing via Trinity Mirror Wire.

Michael, who will report to regional editorial director Neil Benson, will also oversee the provision of law training for editorial staff across the group and the delivery of masterclass reporter training to our regional teams.

He joined the Mirror Group 17 years ago as a trainee journalist, completing the Newcastle foundation course before joining The Daily Mirror’s investigations team.

Michael covered consumer and business for the Mirror, later joining the newsdesk as assistant news editor and then deputy news editor.

The new regionals team will ensure legal compliance and content provenance are maintained to the necessary standards, the company said.
