Scottish daily increases cover price by 10p

Scottish daily The Scotsman has increased its cover price by 10p a day – the second such price increase in the space of nine months.

The price of the flagship Johnston Press title has been raised from £1.20 to £1.30 each weekday and from £1.60 to £1.70 on a Saturday.

The paper increased its weekday cover price twice in 2012 from 85p to £1 in January then again to £1.10 in October that year.

There was then a further 10p rise in the title’s cover price in May last year.

Editor Ian Stewart told readers that the increase in price was to “meet overheads such as the rising costs of paper and transportation and, most importantly, to further invest in our journalism”.

Earlier this month, Scotland on Sunday deputy editor Kenny Farquharson was promoted to carry out the same role for sister title The Scotsman in a series of promotions at the two newspapers, after a number of departures.
