Regional publisher appoints new digital director

Regional publisher Local World has appointed a former Daily Mirror journalist as its new digital director.

Matt Kelly, left, started his career in the regional press before holding a number of senior roles at the Mirror before moving to a group wide role with Trinity Mirror in 2007.

After six years as digital publisher and director of content for the group’s national newspaper division, he joined Sol361, a global news design and strategy agency based in Barcelona.

Now he is returning to UK newspapers to lead the delivery of digital product and strategy for Local World, working closely with the broader business to strengthen its multi-platform development.

Said Matt: “At the very core of Local World’s strategy is a profoundly transformative vision for digital content and advertising. I’m terrifically excited about joining the team.”

He will join Local World on 16 June 2014 and will report to chief executive David Montgomery.

During his time at Trinity Mirror, Matt developed the Mirror Group websites and launched new premium brands, including MirrorFootball.co.uk and 3am.co.uk, as well as apps and web-based mobile products such as Daily Mirror for iPad, and Mirror.co.uk and MirrorFootball across all mobile platforms.

Most recently he played a lead role in digital transformation of Argentina’s market leading newspaper Clarín.
