Regional daily ‘roars’ on team in promotion push

A regional newspaper has produced a huge banner to help readers get behind their football team’s Premiership promotion push.

The Derby Telegraph is urging fans in factories, offices, pubs and clubs, to get in touch to say why they should be pictured with its giant “Roar on the Rams” banner.

That comes as Derby County gets set to challenge for the top flight after clinching a championship play-off place.

The banner is part of a Telegraph campaign which urges supporters to think of inventive ways to back their team with their stories and pictures published online and in print.

Editor Neil White said: “We want to turn Derby black and white and fans to have a great time doing it.

“We’ve already seen in the paper this week how fans are regularly spreading the Derby County message all over the city and world and that’s fantastic – now we want them to step it up a notch.”

The paper has also teamed up with Derby County to offer one youngster the chance to join mascot Rammie in leading the players out of the tunnel for the home leg of the play-off semi-final.

The club and legends such as Roy McFarland have got behind the campaign.

The ex-player and former manager said: “I think it’s a great thing for the city.

“There’s no doubt the success of Derby County in the past has made people go into work a lot happier and it still applies as it did in my day.”
