Publisher appoints new newspaper sales chief

Regional publisher Local World has promoted one of its senior commercial executives to head up its newspaper sales and circulation strategy.

Chris Coward, left, currently head of commercial operations, has been appointed to the newly-created role of consumer sales director.

He will be responsible for leading the company’s newspaper sales and circulation strategy, including future subscription and data acquisition opportunities.

Chris will be supported by David Allen, group promotions director, and will continue to manage LW’s print logistics and support operations and the Swansea customer contact centre.

Said Chris: “The challenge of getting closer to our consumers is an exciting one and to be able to overhaul our current systems and invest in specialist technology is fantastic for Local World.”

Chris, who will report to chief operating officer Rachel Addison, joined LW’s predecessor company Northcliffe Media in 1984 and has worked in a variety of management roles.

Chris was brought into Plymouth a few years ago, when I was working there, principally to sort out the unholy mess left in our newspaper sales dept.
That he did so quickly and efficiently, with good humour and many hours’ hard work, is testament to his true talent and passion for local papers.
We were all gutted when he was not ultimately made MD at Plymouth – and the place has certainly never been the same since he left.
Well done Chris…keep on moving on up!

I agree I knew Chris when I worked in NNG and he was a first class operator and bloke.
One of the VERY few left and I wish him well.
