Photographer shows his balls after lens is smashed

A photographer showed his cojones after getting a little closer to the action than he would have liked at a hockey match he was covering.

Tony Bolton, of the Shepton Mallet Journal, was covering the game on Saturday when the hard ball was smashed directly into his special long focus lens – putting it out of action permanently.

But like any true professional Tony had kept his finger on the shutter button, capturing the ball in flight as it rocketed towards him, a fraction of a second before impact.

The resulting photo, pictured below, shows the ball hurtling towards the lens before it was shattered.

To add further insult to injury the replacement Tony ordered arrived from somewhat worse for wear, with its auto focus smashed in transit.

However, he expects to be back on the touchline with a second replacement this Saturday.

Said Tony, pictured below, of the incident: “The player did apologise to me afterwards.”

What was expecting? It was a bloomin hockey match for gawd’s sake! Was you expecting crashing helicopters raining down on to the pitch or wildebeest running amok the pitch in the background to add a touch of flavour to the picture?

No, I thought you’d see a huge hockey ball in the foreground or even the glass of the lens as it was smashed!
