Outgoing Trinity Mirror boss joins rival publisher

A newspaper executive whose forthcoming departure from Trinity Mirror was announced last week is to join rival Scottish publisher DC Thomson.

Trinity Mirror announced on Thursday that Denise West, currently MD of its Scottish and North-East divisions, is leaving business after 17 years.

Now Denise, pictured, has been unveiled as the new head of commercial for DC Thomson’s newspaper titles.

She will join the Dundee-based publishing company next month.

DC Thomson said her role will be to manage and develop commercial activities across its newspaper business.

Chief executive Officer publishing, Ellis Watson said, “I am thrilled that Denise is joining us as head of commercial working across our newspaper brands.

“Denise has worked in the newspaper business for many years across advertising, marketing and commercial and brings with her a great deal of experience.

“She’ll be an asset to our newspaper management team.”

Denise began her career with Aberdeen Journals – now also part of DC Thomson – and has worked in a number of senior roles at media organisations including Thomson Regional Newspapers, The Scotsman Publications and Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail.

Trinity Mirror is carving up her existing role between Allan Rennie, now MD of Media Scotland, and Russell Borthwick, who is rejoining the company as North-East MD.

Announcing her departure last week, Trinity Mirror’s chief operating officer Mark Hollinshead said:  “Denise has established an exemplary track record of performance and delivery in her varied career with the company but has now decided to leave to pursue fresh challenges.

“We wish her every success for the future.”
