Newspapers team up in £250,000 hospice appeal

Five South West newspapers have joined forces in a bid to raise £250,000 to complete a new day hospice.

The Archant-owned Exmouth Journal, Midweek Herald, Exmouth Herald, Sidmouth Herald and Cranbrook Herald are all backing East Devon charity Hospicecare which is bidding to build a new centre in Honiton.

The new day hospice, designed to be a haven of care for thousands of people across East Devon, will provide a patients’ lounge, assisted bathroom, therapy room, quiet room and kitchen, as well as a beautiful sensory garden.

All five newspapers will be helping Hospiscare raise £250,000 to complete and run the centre, which is due to open this summer.

The titles are inviting people to get involved by organising or supporting events across East Devon, volunteering or simply making a donation.

Hospiscare has received a grant of £510,000 from NHS England as well as pledges from its sister charities, Budleigh, Exmouth and Sidmouth Hospiscare, to bring the plans for the new day hospice to fruition.
