Newspaper-backed TV station unveils launch date

A new TV channel, run by a partnership including a Midlands daily newspaper, is gearing up for a spring launch date.

Notts TV Ltd is due to start broadcasting a mix of news sport, weather and programmes on May 27.

The operation is being run by the Nottingham Post, Nottingham Trent University, Confetti Media and Inclusive Digital.

Student journalists from Nottingham Trent University’s Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism will be involved in the station during their final year of study, or through placements.

Nott’s TV will also feature presenters who are “BBC favourites” and video journalists from media outlets across the UK.

Channel Director Jamie Brindle said: “We’re lucky to be working with some really talented people, household names that bring a strong fan base with them.”

“BBC favourites – Frances Finn and Becky Sheeran – join us as presenters and we’re pleased to announce that our team of talented video journalists have come from a variety of successful media outlets across the UK.”

The station has an investment of over £1m in technical infrastructure “marking a return to large scale programme making in
Nottingham, ” a spokesman said.

Notts TV will broadcast on Freeview Channel 8, operating seven days a week, broadcasting daily news, sport and weather, as well as “a range of quality programmes.”

The partnership was announced as the successful applicant to run a local TV service in Nottingham by media regulator Ofcom.
