New press standards body to hold first meeting

The new independent press regulator is to hold its first public meeting later this month in Edinburgh.

The public are being invited to give their views on the new Independent Press Standards Organisation at a debate organised by Edinburgh Napier University.

Among the speakers will be IPSO chair Sir Alan Moses, Professor Natalie Fenton from the campaign group Hacked Off and Scottish Newspaper Society director John McLellan.

The event will take place on 23 June at the University’s Craiglockhart Campus.

Sir Alan said: “I am delighted to be taking part in a series of public meetings around the country, the first of which is being hosted by Edinburgh Napier University.

“I would like to hear what you would like to see from a regulator of the press. Please do come along to this event to share your opinion.”

Former Leicester Mercury editor Keith Perch was recently chosen to represent the regional press on IPSO’s board.  The organisation is due to start work in September.

Anyone wanting to attend the debate should email [email protected] by Friday 20 June.
