Monthly newspaper ups pages six months after launch

A monthly newspaper launched six months ago has increased its pagination to meet demand from advertisers.

The Scarborough Review hit the streets for the first time in August when it was launched by former Scarborough News sub-editor Pete Spence as a 32-page title.

Now the title has increased to 36 pages for the first time because of advertising demand and Pete plans to continue this or possible increase the pagination further in the future.

He said the free title had been well-received by readers in the seaside town and the number of distribution outlets had grown since its launch.

Said Pete: “We have found that the paper has certainly been well-received by Scarborough and surrounding areas, both in terms of readership and with advertisers. Many asking for the Review to become a bi-monthly or weekly.

“It is really about the community and giving those who do not necessarily get publicity the opportunity to do so exactly that.

“Future plans are to continue as a 36-pager and hopefully that will increase if our rate of income continues as it has with the advertising.

“People are happy to advertise in a quality free product they know is being picked up at a very good rate.

“I am extremely optimistic about the future and believe the Review is an example of how a well-constructed and marketed independent can be a big success.

The free title is distributed to pick-up points around the town, such as supermarkets, and has a print run of 10,000.

How fantastic, it’s lovely to see a business doing well in the current economic climate, especially as it is community based and provides invaluable information to the people of Scarborough.

Well done Pete and keep up the good work!

I’m not surprised-I have been placing Slimming World adverts on behalf of some of the Scarborough Consultants and they have welcomed lots of new people into their groups and on their way to a healthier, lighter future!

Well done Pete! That’s what it should be about – based locally, serving the area’s needs and being in tune with, and in touch with, your community. Hope it continues to go well for you – no reason why it shouldn’t. All the very best.

    Well done Peter,

Easily the best local paper in comparison to the Evening News as it actually contains local news featuring the real life hard working people that live here.

Keep up the great work and well done to all involved.

This is super, after returning back to the area after 25 years away it is great to see at a glance what companies are around and also current events happening. Keep it going Pete and I wish you the best of luck for all the effort you have put in.
