Journalists’ union hosts free PR seminar

The National Union of Journalists is hosting a free seminar for journalists who have recently switched to, or are considering moving into PR.

The seminar will be an opportunity to hear from, and question, practising PR professionals from across public, private and NGO sectors, both staff and freelance.

Print and broadcast journalism share a vast amount of interchangeable skills with PR, but leaving the familiarity of the newsroom and being on the delivery end of a press release brings a whole new workplace culture, and may well mean that you need to ‘repackage’ your skill set to win that job.

And the NUJ’s Public Relations and Communications Council is committed to helping to make that transition as smooth as possible.

The event will include advice, information and tips from PR professionals who have been in the same situation as you, as well as explaining the benefits of NUJ membership within the profession.

There will be sessions on presenting your skills for the PR jobs market, and what it’s really like to work in the sector.

The event is open to NUJ members and non-members alike but if booking an NUJ members ticket you may be required to provide your membership number.

The event is not free. It says on the Eventbrite page that it’s £5 for NUJ members and £10 for non-members.
