Irish daily to launch new tablet editions

The Belfast Telegraph has launched a new app that enables it to publish multiple editions on tablet each day.

The new feed-driven app enables publishers to feed selected editorial content into customizable templates, then edit the page order and tweak layouts.

Built by PageSuite, the new app also features an integrated subscription model that charges readers a monthly fee in order to access its digital edition and supplements.

Kevin Traynor, Digital Director at Independent News and Media said: “We’re delighted to have worked closely with PageSuite to deliver the new Belfast Telegraph iPad edition. The app is a best class digital news product for any regional newspaper in the UK and Ireland.

“It highlights Independent News and Media’s commitment to innovation, and our continued investment in our digital platforms.”

    Good luck with that.
Charging readers for local news simply won’t work.
Why should a reader cough up their hard-earned money for online content, when it’ll probably be found free somewhere else within minutes?
I think as the Bel Tel continues to lose their traditional readership, trying to charge for it online at a local level is a sign of desperation.
