Hyperlocal sites to get anniversary relaunch

Graham BreezeA  hyperlocal media company launched by a former regional press editor has marked its fourth anniversary with a digital relaunch.

MyTown Media Ltd is set to introduce a fresh design and new sections to its www.mywelshpool.co.uk and www.mynewtown.co.uk websites.

The company was founded in 2010 by Graham Breeze, pictured left, a previous editor-in-chief at regional publisher NWN Media, along with former colleague David Williams.

The sites currently attract more than 40,000 unique users per month.

Said Graham: “The pace in which people are switching from the print media to on-line alternatives is increasing faster than anyone in the industry predicted.

“It’s hard to believe how quickly things are moving, particularly with large companies such as Trinity Mirror closing once highly successful newspapers, in favour of online options.

“The trick has been in making our websites pay and it’s no secret that it has been hard work.

“But we have gained the trust and respect of the communities we serve and advertisers are recognising the benefits we can offer through our sites and through our social networks.”

Two years ago the company was one of 10 online news projects across the UK to be awarded £50,000 funding from a government backed scheme to develop hyperlocal media innovation in the UK.

The funds enabled the company to set up location-aware apps on both Android and iOS, allowing geographically-relevant content to be viewed on mobile phones and iPads.

Graham Breeze was the most news savvy and human friendly editorial directors I have ever worked. He has always been at home in the heart of his patch and enjoyed the committed support of his readers. The success of his online news venture comes as no surprise. Huge well done and good luck for the future.
