Ex-regional columnist launches book on nation’s big issue

A former regional newspaper columnist who became policy head to Scotland’s First Minister has committed his thoughts to paper on next month’s referendum debate – in a new book.

Alex Bell, the former constitutional adviser to Alex Salmond, launched The People We Could Be at a special festival gathering last night.

The ex-columnist and leader writer for The Herald newspaper in Scotland told an audience at Edinburgh’s week-long Referendum Festival what the independence issue meant to western democratic politics.

New book publishers Luath, which is hosting the festival, said: “Considering both Scottish independence from Britain and UK independence from the European Union, Alexander Bell brings a much-needed global perspective to the debate.”

It is a second book for Alex, the co-founder of website allmediascotland.com and an expert on the world’s water crisis. His first, five years ago, was called Peak Water.
