Editor steps up to publisher role at daily-turned-weekly

The editor of a daily-turned-weekly title has been promoted to become its publisher with a new acting editor appointed in his place.

Steven Fletcher, left, was appointed editor of the Lincolnshire Echo in 2011 having previously overseen its transformation from daily to weekly in an acting capacity.

Now he has been promoted to publisher of Lincolnshire Media with content editor Mel West, bottom right, made acting editor of the Echo.

The move is part of a wider reshuffle within parent company Local World which sees the existing Lincolnshire publisher Richard Duxbury move to a new role based in Cambridge.

Richard will now take overall responsibility for the Cambridge News and other former Iliffe News and Media-owned titles in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and the South Midlands including the LSN Media group.

Local World’s corporate development director Lisa Gordon told HTFP: “Basically we’re looking at some changes to give us more focus on some of our key markets and with Steven Fletcher’s new role we’re also promoting some great talent from within.”

Steven, then deputy editor of the Nottingham Post, was seconded to the Echo in 2011 when the previous editor, Jon Grubb resigned while the daily-to-weekly switch was at the planning stage.

After overseeing the frequency change, he was confirmed in the role in November 2011

Steven  declined to comment on his own appointment last night but has welcomed Mel’s new role.

He said: “Mel knows Lincolnshire inside out and I’m delighted that she is taking over as acting editor.”

A big congratulations goes to young Steven Fletcher. A well deserved promotion for someone who has done a smashing job of turning around the Echo and making it a must read each Thursday. I would also like to take this opportunity to applaud Local World for recognising talent and promoting from within. Its a rarity these days and I think it gives their employees real hope of fruitful careers. Chin-chin.

Congrats, Steve. Singled you out as a man going places when you first joined the Nottingham Evening Post, as it was then. Keep up the good work.
