Editor raises more than £1,000 by quitting alcohol

A regional daily editor raised more than £1,000 by giving up alcohol for a month in memory of his aunt.

Keith Harrison, from the Wolverhampton-based Express & Star, took on Cancer Research’s Dryathlon challenge, which involved giving up alcohol for the whole of January.

He decided to carry out the challenge following the death of his aunt Ann, who died suddenly from cancer in December at the age of 60.

Keith, pictured, set himself a fundraising target of £750 but managed to raise £1,120 during the month.

He told readers about why he was carrying out the charity challenge in a moving first-person piece about his aunt’s death before the New Year began.
