David Cameron backs daily’s apprentice campaign

A daily newspaper’s campaign to find apprenticeships for 125 youngsters and help boost the local economy has been backed by David Cameron.

The Prime Minister is the latest high profile figure to lend his support to the scheme by the Cambridge News to find apprenticeships for 125 young people – as the paper celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

“Apprenticeships give young people the skills they need to get on – helping them get jobs and find their way in life,” he told the News.

“As part of our long term economic plan the Government has helped an extra 1.5 million people start apprenticeships since the election and I’m very pleased to see Cambridge News and Cambridge Regional College doing their best to help us fill those places.”

The 125 Apprentices campaign, which was launched by Prince Andrew last year, is encouraging more and more employers to look at the business benefits of employing an apprentice and offer great opportunities to young people.

“I’d also like to congratulate the News on their 125th anniversary. Local newspapers are a trusted source of news all across the country, and I wish the whole team the best for the next 125 years,” added Mr Cameron.
