Axed sports editor takes up PR role

A weekly sports editor axed in a management restructure earlier this year has taken up a role in PR.

Steve Butt left his position at the Swindon Advertiser in August when Newsquest combined his job and the sports editor’s role at the Wiltshire Times/Wiltshire Gazette & Herald.

Steve has now taken up the position of head of PR and social media at Swindon-based digital marketing agency Smarter Media.

Smarter Media managing director Karl Paul described Steve’s arrival as “extremely exciting”.

Karl, pictured above on the right with Steve, said: ““It’s great to be expanding the team with such an experienced person.

“The value that Steve adds to the business and our clients is fantastic and certainly exciting.

“With Steve’s expertise, industry knowledge and wealth of contacts, we can now offer our clients maximum exposure for their businesses.

“I look forward to developing the PR service that we offer with Steve and further growing the business in general in the coming months.”

Steve added: “It is an exciting opportunity that was too good to refuse.

“Karl’s website, SEO and social media knowledge is second to none but he wanted to offer a public relations service to his clients and obviously that’s where I come in.”

At least his press releases should not need rewriting, unless he is gripped by PR-speak. Good luck to him, got out of loony industry with no respect for good people any more.
