Active newspaper staff top county fitness challenge

A team of staff from regional publisher Archant came out on top in Suffolk’s Workplace Challenge competition.

Organised by the County Sports Partnership Network and funded by Sport England, it let teams tot-up points online based on how much physical activity they got through each week, between January and March.

The initiative is part of a national campaign to get people more active.

Thanks to the combined efforts of around those in editorial, advertising and newspaper sales, Ipswich-based Archant Suffolk topped the county league table – beating off the challenge of more than 130 other workplaces.

Terry Hunt, Archant Suffolk editor-in-chief, said: “The team has done brilliantly to finish top in the whole county. The challenge really brought out the competitive instinct in people – and helped to improve their fitness levels at the same time.”

Canvassing executive Matt Casburn was Archant’s highest scorer, also finishing 8th in the county’s individual league table.

The team logged more than 2,200 miles in exercise – ranging from running and cycling to walking.

John Clough, director of Suffolk Sport, said: “Suffolk Sport is delighted to have taken the opportunity to implement such a great initiative throughout Suffolk’s workplaces.

“On behalf of Suffolk Sport I would like to congratulate all participants for taking part, improving their health and well-being, helping Suffolk strive to become the Most Active County.”
