Weekly marks Glastonbury Festival with special edition

A weekly newspaper has produced a 48-page special edition for the Glastonbury Festival, which is held in the heart of its patch.

Journalists at the Central Somerset Gazette put together the souvenir edition in just 48 hours to ensure it was up-to-date, with a print run of 5,000 which will only be sold at the festival.

The edition includes interviews, archive material, pictures and features, including Glasto Top Trumps, as well as competitions and photographs.

The annual event, which began yesterday, is the biggest music festival in Britain as thousands of people descend on the area. News editor Oliver Hulme said: “We also have a special offer that is a closely guarded secret and only available to buyers of the paper  – but which any news outlet local, national or international worth its salt would give its right arm for.

“And we’ll be running a full scale Twitter, web and Facebook campaign from the site, getting into the places and stories that the nationals just don’t know about.

“We might not have the resources of the big media outlets, but we’ve provided a product that rivals anything they can do.”

The paper has archives going back to the creation of the festival 43 years ago and always tries to do something special to mark the event.
