Weekly editor hands out jelly babies at half marathon

A weekly editor was part of a team from the newspaper who handed out jelly babies and water to runners in the Yeovil Half Marathon.

A team from the Western Gazette including editor Emma Slee and reporter Claire Smyth manned a drinks station at the event, while reporter Jonathon Taylor took part in the event, completing it in 2hrs 12mins.

Jonathon was taking part in the half marathon to raise money for Children With Cancer UK, because his mother died from the disease and his step-mother is fighting it. He will also take part in the London Marathon on 21 April.

The Gazette also provided coverage of the half-marathon, with photographer Len Copland, digital publisher Chris Rogers and reporter Flora Thompson recording the event for its website and an eight-page souvenir pull-out.

Race organiser Steve Elliott said: “A huge thank you to all of the Western Gazette team for not only providing the event with such fantastic exposure in the local media, but most significantly for getting stuck in and manning the busiest drinks station on the course.”
