Weekly editor bows out after 33 years at title

A weekly editor is to retire from a newspaper founded more than 40 years ago by his father.

Rob Taylor joined the Black Country Bugle in 1980 as deputy editor and succeeded his late father Harry as editor in 1993.

Now he is retiring after 33 years with the title with long-serving reporter Gavin Jones stepping up to acting editor.

The paper is now owned by Staffordshire Newspapers, part of the Local World publishing group.

Said Rob:  “The Bugle has been described as unique and encyclopaedic in its content, and that is how I am pleased to leave it now, a much respected publication at the heart of our region.”

Penny Whitelock, publisher of Staffordshire Newspapers added: “Rob has preserved the local issues faced by the Black Country over many decades. The Black Country Bugle continues to enjoy a loyal weekly readership in excess of 11,000, an achievement to be recognised and respected.”

Gavin Jones, who has worked alongside Rob for the past fifteen years, has been appointed acting editor with immediate effect.

During his career Rob has worked on all aspects of the paper, including editorial, advertising, promotion and distribution.
