Veteran reporter switches on village’s Christmas lights

A veteran reporter who has worked at a weekly for 60 years switched on the Christmas lights at a village in the patch.

Hucknall Dispatch reporter Denis Robinson performed the switch-on in Linby in Nottinghamshire, which was attended by more than 450 people.

He was invited to carry out the role by Linby Parish Council and said he was “delighted” to carry out the honours.

Denis marked 60 years working for the Dispatch in October this year and he started working for the title after leaving school, following a short period at the now defunct Nottingham Evening News.

He initially retired from the weekly three years ago, at the age of 73, but returned as a freelance reporter a few months later.
