Scottish daily increases cover price by a third

A regional daily which has had a promotional cover price since relaunching more than a year ago is set to increase this by 10p.

The price of the Paisley Daily Express will increase from 30p to 40p from Monday (9 Dec) but the price still remains lower than the 45p it was charging before its revamp.

In August last year, the title was relaunched with a new look and a cover price of just 20p as the first of 17 titles to be relaunched by Trinity Mirror’s Media Scotland division, under its new editorial system.

This has since been increased to 30p and now a further 10p will be added onto the cover price of its Monday to Saturday editions.

On the National Federation of Retail Newsagents’ website, it said since the promotion had started, retailers had been receiving terms based on a 45p cover price.

It said it had been told by the publisher that this would continue with the increase in the promotional cover price, so newsagents would still receive 10.5p per copy sold.

The relaunch of the title saw a new design introduced, with increased pagination, more content based on user-generated stories, an extended entertainment section and new columnists.

Trinity Mirror had not responded to requests for a comment at the time of publication.
