Two reporters from rival newspapers in Northampton went head to head in a curry-cooking contest.
Callum Jones, from the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, and Annabel Howard, from the Northampton Herald & Post, were challenged to create a chicken tikka masala at the town’s Saffron restaurant to mark National Curry Week.
The dishes created by the pair were then judged by the chef of the restaurant who decided that Callum’s dish tasted “sweeter” than that of his rival.
Naz Islam, owner of Saffron, said: “Chicken tikka masala is a dish that we all know and love but very few people try to cook it from scratch in their own homes. Hopefully we have shown Callum and Annabel that it’s not as daunting as they may have feared.
“There’s no doubt that curry has become firmly established as the country’s favourite food and the appetite for new, exciting flavours shows no sign of stopping.
“We feed around 600 people in Northampton every week and that’s growing all the time. It seems that diners can’t get enough of our curries.”
