Regional daily to hand out £25,000 to local groups

A regional daily is set to hand out £25,000 to local charities and groups as part of an annual appeal.

The Liverpool Echo has launched its Wish 2013 campaign to hand out cash to 150 not-for-profit organisations across Merseyside.

Groups interested in taking part are asked to fill out an application form and those who make the “Wish List” will then have until November to collect as many tokens as possible, which will be printed in the Echo each day.

The £25,000 will be divided up by the number of tokens collected, with all 150 on the list receiving some money, and the group which collects the most overall will also win £10,000 of building work from Liverpool-based building firm Fletchrose.

Editor-in-chief Alastair Machray told readers: “We had a brilliant response to last year’s Wish campaign but this year we want even more people to get behind it.

“The Wish campaign is our way of recognising and thanking the very people who often do their work without seeking any reward.

“They are the unseen heroes who make Merseyside great. So please, everyone, collect as many tokens as you can and help us make their wish come true.”

Last year, the cash was divided up between 200 organisations but this has been reduced to 150 to give those involved a bigger slice of the funding.
