Regional daily marks Kate’s visit with special edition

A regional daily published an special edition and carried live video streaming on its website for the first time to mark a visit by the Duchess of Cambridge to the town.

Journalists at the Grimsby Telegraph pulled out all the stops to welcome the pregnant Duchess to Grimsby on Tuesday, including publishing a breaking news edition on the afternoon of her visit, pictured below.

The title also put together a 16-page souvenir supplement for Wednesday’s edition of the paper to mark the Royal occasion.

Reporters and photographers provided live coverage on the paper’s website, including live video streaming, Twitter updates and videos from all the locations attended on the visit.

Deputy editor Michelle Hurst said: “We were all very excited about the visit of our future queen to Grimsby – it is a great coup for the town to have such a high-profile Royal visit.

“The town has really been buzzing over the last few days, and the high turnout was indicative of how popular Kate is.

“We also had a French TV crew follow us around during preparations and coverage on the day for a documentary they are putting together for French TV.”

The Telegraph asked its readers for messages of support to give to the Duchess and received more than 100 of these – from as far afield as South Africa.

The title also arranged for a group of school children to post pictures and stories from the visit onto its website.

During the visit to Grimsby, the Duchess visited the Fishing Heritage Centre, Peaks Lane Fire Station and the Havelock Academy.
