Regional daily invites readers to take horsemeat test

The growing scandal over the sale of horsemeat saw one regional daily devise an innovative taste test for readers.

Nottingham Post health reporter Dominic Howell took to the streets with two platefuls of sausages – one made with horsemeat and the other with beef – to see if people could tell the difference.

Said Dominic:  “Surprisingly the majority of people who took part in the test said they enjoyed eating the horse, once we’d told them which was which.

“Most, but not all, could taste a difference between the two meats, and it’s fair to say the horse did provoke some mixed reactions – one person spat it out, others came back for more.

“But people were in unanimous agreement that, regardless of how horse or beef tastes, their main cause of concern lay in the fact they had been lied to by the food industry.”

The results of the test were carried on page three of today’s paper while a video of the taste test can also be viewed on the Post’s website.
