Prime Minister David Cameron toured a regional daily newsroom after his office directly requested the visit.
Mr Cameron spoke to journalists from the Yorkshire Post last week, addressing issues such as the North-South divide and the proposed HS2 high-speed rail link.
The Prime Minister told the paper that the new £53bn railway was central to his long-term economic plan, but he accepted that the battle over public opinion was yet to be won.
Editor Jeremy Clifford told HTFP that the visit had come about as a result of a direct request from the Prime Minister’s office.
Said Jeremy: “This to me is a massive endorsement of the reputation of the Yorkshire Post not only in the North but also in Government circles.
“Its influence is far-reaching and the Prime Minister was keen to hear our thoughts on major issues such as the north-south divide and the High Speed rail proposal.”
During the visit Mr Cameron spoke to YP political editor Jack Blanchard and other journalists from the paper.
Seems to be plenty of office space and that’s before the next round of redundancies.

HS2 – I think it will be written on Cameron’s political gravestone, and deservedly so. The way he is riding roughshod over hundreds of thousands of people who will be affected by this line is nothing short of scandalous. Sad to see The Yorkshire Post is so easily buttered up. Other local papers on the route are actually standing fast against it.

Are the Evening Post not in the same office? No mention of them?

The titles used to keep separate brand identities for their different readerships. That must still be the case, even though they now share a new editor. The YEP is in the same office.

I was delicately suggesting that it might have been nice to mention that it was also a “massive endorsement” for the reputation of the EP too, considering Mr Cameron was pictured on the front page the following day holding a copy of the paper.
