Scottish title the Daily Record is the best-read daily newspaper in Scotland, according to the latest readership figures.

The Trinity Mirror title had an estimated readership of 783,000 between April 2012 and March 2013 putting it ahead of the Scottish Sun’s readership of 744,000, according to figures from the National Readership Survey which come from carrying out surveys.

The Record’s sister title the Sunday Mail has maintained its market lead in Scotland, with current readership per issue of 885,000, of which 864,000 are in Scotland.

It is estimated that the Record and Sunday Mail reach 26.4pc of all adults in Scotland with a combined readership of 1,152,000.

Over the last year, the Record has made a number of improvements including the creation of a daily women’s section, a Saturday English Premiership sports pull-out and revamped Saturday and Ticket magazines.

Editor-in chief Allan Rennie said: “Even in these tough times Scots turn to the Record and Sunday Mail first for news, features and sport. With the independence referendum, Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup around the corner, readers and advertisers know they can trust the Record to speak up for Scotland.”
