New lifestyle magazine launched by regional publisher

A regional publisher has launched a new glossy lifestyle magazine for a city.

The first 180-page edition of Cambridge Magazine has hit the streets yesterday and has been launched by Cambridge Newspapers, which publishes the Cambridge News.

The publication aims to be a high-end lifestyle title and two editions will be published this year, before it goes monthly from next year.

Cambridge Magazine will be distributed in a range of retail outlets, including John Lewis and Waitrose, in First Class carriages of Stansted Express trains, via free pick-up points throughout Cambridge and delivered door-to-door in affluent areas of the city.

The monthly magazine was launched last night at the Hotel du Vin, Cambridge, at an event which was attended by leading personalities from the Cambridge business, retail and arts communities.

The title is being led by magazines editor Alice Ryan and content editor Louise Cummings and includes articles about homes and interiors, fashion and beauty, food and drink, arts and culture, people and places.

Alice said: “Cambridge is a very special city. It boasts a diversity unmatched elsewhere, and its signature blend of beauty, history, culture and shopping is, quite frankly, unsurpassed.

“What it hasn’t had, until now, is a magazine to reflect that – and that’s where Cambridge Magazine comes in.”

Louise added: “We’ve pooled the talent of both our own team and specialists from within the city, to create a magazine with a unique personality and editorial integrity. We’re extremely proud of the result, and hope readers will love it as much as we do.”

The cover of the first edition features an image of a couple dancing in front of King’s College shot by city photographer Martin Bond and the front page is free from wording in a break from the traditional magazine design.

The idea for the new magazine was devised earlier this year when Cambridge Newspapers decided to review its magazine portfolio, which at the time included the Cambridgeshire Journal, Style and CB.

A ‘high-end lifestyle title’. That will be an advertising vehicle then, destined to lay unread in the surgery reception.

Am I alone in being bored senseless by lifestyle magazines?
