Fleet Street blogger revealed as ex-regional reporter

An anonymous blogger who writes about the inner workings of tabloid journalism has outed herself as a former regional press reporter.

Former Plymouth Herald defence reporter Susie Boniface has revealed she is the author of Fleet Street Fox, a popular blog which focuses on the inner workings of red-top tabloid journalism.

Her blog has gained her more than 50,000 Twitter followers and she has been a regular writer for Mirror Online under her alter ego.

Susie worked at The Herald more than 10 years ago and her work as defence reporter saw her write a series of features on the Royal Navy’s presence in The Gulf.

She has spent the last 10 years working for the Sunday Mirror and is now a freelance journalist working for a number of national titles.

Now she has revealed her identity to coincide with the publication of her book, The Diaries of a Fleet Street Fox, which has just been released.

She wrote: “There might be some of you who’d rather I stayed anonymous, and no doubt one or two who’ll be thinking: ‘Oh, that’s ruined the fun.’

“Well, sorry about that. My name is known enough that if I didn’t out myself someone else would, and they’d almost certainly make a hash of it. And do you know what? This is my story – it should have my byline.

“Added to which the publishers of my book have a right to expect me to help them sell it, because otherwise there’d be no point in my writing the thing. It would be silly to do all the publicity from inside a paper bag.”

The Fleet Street Fox blog was started as Susie’s marriage was ending and she also writes about this and the subsequent divorce.

Her book is available from Amazon.
