Daily sports reporter follows Premier League side to US

It’s California dreamin’ for one regional daily sports reporter after newspaper bosses splashed out to send him all the way to the USA to follow the local football club’s pre-season matches.

Norwich City FC are playing three games on America’s West Coast in the space of 11 days – and the Eastern Daily Press decided to send Norwich City writer Paddy Davitt along to provide ongoing coverage.

Paddy is filming and producing a video tour diary for the paper’s website and interactively blogging from each game, as well as keeping readers up-to-date via social media and providing copy for the paper.

Speaking to HTFP from the USA, he said he was pleased that the EDP had decided to go the extra mile to cover the games.

“From my perspective the decision to staff the tour underlines our commitment to produce the best coverage of Norwich City in a competitive domestic and international market, given the huge popularity and global reach of the Premier League,” he said.

“The eight hour time difference brings it own unique deadline pressures and we are also actively committed to a strong digital footprint in addition to our print output.”

NCFC kicked off the tour in Sacramento, celebrating the city’s launch of a professional soccer team by taking on a Mexican club, before facing Major League Soccer side the San Jose Earthquakes and the Portland Timbers.

Gosh…how “not exciting” to know that a reporter from Norfolk has gone to America!

How interesting to know that one newspaper is prepared to spend money on something in which its readership are keenly interested. It makes a welcome change from all the penny-pinching stories.
