Birmingham political editor to head Newspaper Conference

A long-serving regional political editor is to be this year’s chairman of the Newspaper Conference.

Jon Walker, political editor of the Birmingham Mail for the past ten years, succeeds Western Morning News London editor Graeme Demianyk in the role.

The conference, made up of London-based correspondents for regional newspapers, provides a platform for the regional press to speak directly to Westminster politicians through a series of quarterly lunches and other events.

Said Jon:  “I am pleased to take on the important role chairman of the Newspaper Conference and continuing Graeme’s excellent work as ambassador for the regional press industry in Westminster.”

Jon, who also works for the Birmingham Post and Coventry Telegraph, has been in the regional lobby since 2002.

The conference AGM also saw Jack Blanchard, political editor of the Yorkshire Post, appointed deputy chairman.
