Like their paid-for counterparts, many of the free weeklies have now opted to be audited annually,.

This means their circulation figures will now appear only once a year, in February, and will cover the whole of the previous year.

Of those predominantly paid-for titles that opted to continue with six-monthly audits, the best-performing was the Devon-based Star which saw its circulation rise by 23.6pc.

Appearing on the list for the first time are Archant London’s monthly ‘Resident’ titles which it says is the industry’s first “luxury letterbox magazine” to join ABC.

The Resident portfolio, featuring 13 luxury lifestyle titles, are hand-delivered to over 350,000 of the most affluent households in London, as well as Michelin-starred restaurants,  five star hotels, high-end luxury retailers and leading estate agents.

Archant London MD, Will Hattam said: “The independent verification of our titles by ABC is a key stage in the development of both our portfolio and the luxury free magazine market in Central London.”
