Weekly makes former street child’s dream reality

A weekly newspaper helped make a former street child’s dream come true after calling on readers to donate a saxophone to him.

The Westmorland Gazette asked if any readers had an instrument they no longer used and urged then to gift it to Ukrainian teenager Viktor Bolog in order for him to achieve his musical dream of playing the saxophone.

Two readers came forward and offered their instruments to 13-year-old Viktor, who lives in a children’s home.

Former Gazette journalist Karen Barden, who helped co-ordinate the appeal, said the donations were the ultimate example of giving. She said. “Viktor absolutely loves music and whenever he hears a saxophone he is transfixed.”
